HOW DID YOU SEE GOD THIS WEEK AS YOU FOLLOWED HIM?

WHAT DID GOD SAY IN HIS WORD?

Opening Question:

Have you felt tensions rising over whether Illinois should reopen? How do you handle conversations or online posts from people who disagree with you?

God reminded his people about their source of security, provision and empowerment at the end of the law in Exodus. Let’s read the story again in our passage from Sunday:

30:11 The LORD said to Moses, 12 “When you take the census of the people of Israel, then each shall give a ransom for his life to the LORD when you number them, that there be no plague among them when you number them. 13 Each one who is numbered in the census shall give this: half a shekel according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel is twenty gerahs), half a shekel as an offering to the LORD. 14 Everyone who is numbered in the census, from twenty years old and upward, shall give the LORD’s offering. 15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less, than the half shekel, when you give the LORD’s offering to make atonement for your lives. 16 You shall take the atonement money from the people of Israel and shall give it for the service of the tent of meeting, that it may bring the people of Israel to remembrance before the LORD, so as to make atonement for your lives.”

31:1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, 3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, 4 to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, 5 in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. 6 And behold, I have appointed with him Oholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan. And I have given to all able men ability, that they may make all that I have commanded you:

Reflect Together:

If Moses took a census of Israel, it would cost one of two things. What were those two possibilities? How does the cost of life or income relate to the nature of a census?

God empowers the craftspeople to make the tabernacle (31:3, 6). Has God ever called someone to a task and failed to empower them for that task? What Bible stories can you recall where God gives a high calling and empowers the person for the task?

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THROUGH HIS WORD?

Do you think Illinois should be moving more quickly or more slowly in terms of reopening? How have you been feeling toward those who disagree with you? What does that say about how your doing right now trusting God with your future?

How strong is your sense of calling? How are you following God in this season? Do you feel like God has given you what you need to do what he’s called?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?

If the Spirit is convicting you of having hurt with your words instead of helped, consider how you can apologize and interact differently in the future. Try and get underneath the actual words you spoke to identify what fears or frustrations are leading to your tone and actions.

Seek God’s help to demonstrate your trust in him in the way you talk with others.
