HOW DID YOU SEE GOD THIS WEEK AS YOU FOLLOWED HIM?

WHAT DID GOD SAY IN HIS WORD?

Opening Question:

Why is the Bible important to you?

Let’s read our passage together to hear again the importance of hearing and doing God’s word:

24 "Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it." 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, 29 for he was teaching them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.

Reflect Together:

What makes the difference of foundation for the houses in Jesus’ story: hearing or doing?

Why do you think Jesus emphasizes “doing”?

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THROUGH HIS WORD?

We can’t do what Jesus says unless we hear him clearly. How are you at listening and understanding others clearly? How are you doing at listening and understanding God clearly and regularly?

Hearing without doing apparently leads to ruin, so how are you doing at obeying what you hear God say through his Word? Are you running into any roadblocks to doing what God is calling you to do?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?

If you don’t have a regular habit of listening to God in his Word, now is a great time to (re)start it. Sharing about how you are listening to God and following him can be a great part of your regular home group time if you don’t do that already. Consider how you can spur one another on in listening to God in his Word.

If you are listening but struggling to follow God with concrete actions, prayerfully discern with your group where the roadblocks are and what it would take to clear them. Support one another as you identify steps of obedience you need to take to God this week.
