HOW DID YOU SEE GOD THIS WEEK AS YOU FOLLOWED HIM?

WHAT DID GOD SAY IN HIS WORD?

Opening Question:

Who is your best friend? (Note for married couples: apart from your spouse). What makes them your best friend?

The author of Hebrews reveals some important reasons for deep distinctly Christian friendships in our passage from Sunday. Let’s read it again:

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Reflect Together:

What is the “confession of our hope” in verse 23? Try reading the preceding verses to find out.

When the author tells the church to “not neglect meeting together” (v25), what do you think he had in mind? Was he only thinking about weekly worship gatherings?

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THROUGH HIS WORD?

How are we as a home group doing at encouraging each other to “hold fast to the confession of our hope” (v23)? Are there doubts or struggles you have with trusting in Jesus that you haven’t shared with us yet?

How are we as a home group doing at “stirring up one another to love and good works” (v24)? Is it time for us to go deeper in accountability and helping one another take steps of obedience to Jesus?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?

Consider who you can extend a gesture of community towards this week. Is there someone you know who may feel more isolated in this season that would appreciate a phone call or video chat? Make a plan to help someone feel more connected this week.

If your group has not yet begun “stirring up one another to love and good works”, consider how you could build in healthy accountability to your regular group rhythms. You could form accountability partnerships between 2-3 members of the group, or include follow-up accountability checks as a whole group during the “celebration” portion of the meeting. Discern together what the right steps would be for you as a group and make a plan to do them.
