Pastoral Staff

Mitch Kim – Senior Pastor. With extensive experience in the immigrant church, Dr. Mitch Kim desires to raise up multicultural people as Kingdom workers in a globalized world. He helped to establish the Joshua Generation, a ministry to connect and equip youth workers to reach their generation for Christ. In 2010, Mitch participated in the Third International Congress on World Evangelization (Lausanne Congress)in Cape Town, South Africa. He coauthored with G. K. Beale God Dwells Among Us: Expanding Eden to the Ends of the Earth, a biblical theology of mission from Creation to New Creation. and published Genesis: A 12-Week Study (Knowing the Bible). He also taught in the graduate school at Wheaton College. Of Korean descent, Mitch was born in southern California, raised in Tokyo, and lives in Naperville with his wife, Eunsil, and their 3 kids: Elise, Ana, & Eden.

Cheryl Baird – Director of Spiritual Formation. Cheryl is a licensed professional counselor who has worked in private practice for 20 years.  Currently she serves as the Director of Spiritual Formation at Wellspring.  Cheryl has an M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton and an M.A. in Religion from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. She loves to travel, hang out with people, and be in the sun at every opportunity! Cheryl is married to Brian and they have three kids: David, Chrissy, & Nikki.

Steve Hands – Warrenville Campus Pastor. Steve joined the church staff in January 2014 after serving as a Pastoral Intern at a2 Church in Birmingham, Alabama from 2011-2013. He loves helping people grow in their personal relationships with Jesus through their connection with the Church. He has a B.A. in Biblical Literature from Indiana Wesleyan University and an M.Div from Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, AL. Steve and his wife Jessica are raising their son Elijah in Warrenville.

Stephen Hong – Director of College Ministry. Stephen joined the staff in July of 2016 after having served six years as a campus staff work with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship at Northern Illinois University. He is passionate about seeing college students become disciples of Christ, and has a special heart to reach those who are lost and broken. He graduated from the  University of Illinois at Chicago in 2010 with a B.A. in Psychology and is currently a full-time student at Trinity International University working on his Masters in Divinity. He has been married to his wife, Micah, since 2013.

James Lee – Pastor of Youth Ministries. James has been serving in youth ministry for 15 years, primarily in the immigrant church. He served 12 years at Antioch Bible Church in Wheeling, IL, prior to coming to Living Water. His passion is to see youth know and experience Jesus Christ as they have opportunities to exercise their faith in evangelism, service, and leadership. He majored in English-Literature at Loyola University in Chicago. He is currently in the licensure process with the Christian and Missionary Alliance. James and his wife, Sandy, are the proud parents of Ruth, and they live in Wheaton.

Debra Mason – Director of Children’s & Family Ministries. Debra joined the staff in July 2016. She loves to see God at work in the lives of children through the study of His Word and through worship. Prior to coming to Wellspring, she served for seven years in the pre-school ministry of Bible Study Fellowship (BSF). She has a degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and a Bible & Missions degree from Bethany College of Missions in Bloomington, Minnesota. She is married to Noel, and they are the proud parents of Sam, Sawyer, and Tori.

Reggie Ramos – Associate Pastor of Worship & Communications. Having served as a worship leader for over 20 years and in pastoral leadership for over 15 years, Reggie has a passion to serve the local church as a shepherd through music ministry. He is deeply committed to using the gifts God has given him to help others grow in the knowledge of God and His promises, experience His love and care, and respond to Him in authentic worship. He studied Math at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and studied theology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Prior to Wellspring, he served as associate pastor of Faith Alliance Bible Church (Des Plaines, IL) from 2000-2006 before planting Immanuel Community Church (Hoffman Estates, IL), where he served from 2007-2015. He is married to Anissa, and they have 4 children: Isaiah, Lydia, Nathan, & Melody.

Mary Ellen Slefinger – Director of Hospitality. Mary Ellen, a Blanchard attender since 1994, joined the staff in June of 2001 to oversee our ministries to young children. Prior to that, she was a Bible Study Fellowship Children’s Leader for six years. She has a B. A. in Business Administration from Elms College in Chicopee, MA.  She has served in a variety of different ministries at Blanchard, including Missions Festival Chairperson, Hospitality Chairperson and a member of short-term mission teams. Mary Ellen and her husband, Tom, live in Wheaton. They have three grown sons: Michael, John, and Peter.
