Ultimate Rest
While Jesus offers rest (Matt 11:28), we look forward to our ultimate rest. While Jesus’ authority over all things rests with us, we still face disappointment and death until Jesus returns. Yet our faith looks forward, and God’s promises are not yet fully fulfilled. Revelation 14 is written to a beleaguered and persecuted church, and it looks forward to the ultimate rest that awaits us. While God invites all to this rest (14:6–7), this invitation is rejected by some who face judgment (14:8–11) but received by those who endure, obey and believe (14:12–13).
