A third service? A third campus? Or a third hybrid space?

There have been a lot of questions regarding a recent announcement about a third service. And I wish I knew the future to give you all the answers with certainty. However, we are still at a very early stage. The inception of this possible new growth can take us to uncharted places. So, I would like to share what this could be and invite all of you to pray and discern with the leadership team so that ultimately, Jesus is glorified through it all.

A Third Service?

This could be a third service at our Wheaton campus. Even though our rapid church attendance growth has stabilized and also has come down a little bit, we are hitting 80-90% physical capacity. And the church struggles to grow more once it hits this range. Hence, there is a suggestion to launch a third service to provide more space. Now the question is, what would this service look like? Would it be similar to the other two services? I do not know. But what I do know is that a third service may affect the growing intergenerational dynamic that we have been cultivating. And for that reason, we need lots of wisdom if we move forward with this.

A Third Campus?

This could be a launch of a third campus. This idea sounds daunting and scary, but I think it is quite exciting to me if there is a team that could plant a new campus that lives out Wellspring’s values (Word, Prayer, Community, Diversity, Discipleship, and Mission) in a new fresh way to see the lost, the broken, and hurting come to Jesus! Similar to a church plant, it is always exciting to see the mother church birth a daughter church. However, we must count the cost of the birth and carefully and prayerfully move forward if this is where God is calling us.

A Third Hybrid Space.

I do think that this will be a third hybrid space. I envision a third space where we get to live out who we are in Christ as Wellspring Alliance Church. This is a third space where an intergenerational leadership can step up together to exercise their gifts to glorify the body of Christ. This is a new hybrid space where we get to experiment with fresh, innovative ways to live out and build on our values. The third hybrid space will be an excellent opportunity to develop new young leaders, make more disciples, and reach lost people!

Whether it is a new service, a campus, or a new church plant, I do recognize that God has lavished us with so many resources and gifted people in the Wheaton area. And as good stewards, God is calling us to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything Jesus has commanded us (Matt 28:19). And He promises us to be with us always to the very end of the age (Matt 28:20). So, I invite once again for all of you to join other leaders and me to pray and discern where God might be leading our church next.
