HOW DID YOU SEE GOD THIS WEEK AS YOU FOLLOWED HIM?

WHAT DID GOD SAY IN HIS WORD?

Opening Question:

How are you processing George Floyd’s death and the following protests and riots?

Pastor Mitch reminded us that grappling with the sins of a nation is not a new phenomena, but that Moses also had to move from anger to grace. Let’s see that story one more time as we read again the passage from Sunday:

29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God. 30 Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him.

31 But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. 32 Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that the LORD had spoken with him in Mount Sinai.

33 And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face. 34 Whenever Moses went in before the LORD to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, 35 the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

Reflect Together:

When Moses comes down in verse 29, he’s carrying two new tablets because he broke the first two in anger over Israel’s sin with the Golden Calf (Exodus 32:19). What does it mean about God’s relationship with his people that he invited Moses back up the mountain and gave him two new tablets?

The Israelites were afraid when they saw Moses’s face (34:30). Why do you think that is? What did pastor Mitch say about it on Sunday?

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THROUGH HIS WORD?

Pastor Mitch shared that Moses brought his anger and bitterness about the people’s sin before God on the mountain before he returned to speak to the people. How do you usually handle feelings of anger and bitterness? Have you tried bringing those before God? How has that worked out?

When Moses returned from the mountain, he was able to be an agent of God’s grace. What does it mean to be an agent of God’s grace right now as racial injustice continues to harm people of color in the United States?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?

If you are struggling with bitterness, anger, and grief over sins and injustices, consider committing as a group to participating in our week of prayer from June 7 through 13. Partner together in praying for one another and committing to spending time in God’s presence.

Consider how you can be an agent of grace this week. Pastor Mitch shared that love is always personal and local; it always has a name. Which person in your life is God leading you to show grace towards this week? Make a plan to share God’s mercy and compassion with them.
