HOW DID YOU SEE GOD THIS WEEK AS YOU FOLLOWED HIM?

WHAT DID GOD SAY IN HIS WORD?

Opening Question:

What big problems in the world bother you?

Let's read again Paul's call to believing bondservants from 1 Timothy chapter 6:

1 Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled. 2 Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things.

Reflect Together:

What would it mean for the name of God or the teaching to be reviled?

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THROUGH HIS WORD?

Paul calls servants to honor their masters without requiring masters to be deserving of honor. Why do you think God would give this instruction to Ephesian slaves?

What is the difference between honoring and serving someone even when they don’t deserve it, and being a doormat for abuse and oppression? Are there situations in your life where God is calling you to honor and serve even people who don’t deserve it? How are you handling that?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?

Courageously honoring, serving, and loving those who do not deserve it is the greatest demonstration of the love of God through us. It is also the hardest. Consider with your group who the Lord is calling you to honor and serve who is hard to love that way right now. Pray for the Spirit’s empowering to follow him in this calling and support one another.
