HOW DID YOU SEE GOD THIS WEEK AS YOU FOLLOWED HIM?

WHAT DID GOD SAY IN HIS WORD?

Opening Question:

Have you ever had to walk away from a habit or relationship that wasn’t best for you?

Paul encourages Timothy to disengage to engage in every good work in our passage from Sunday. Let’s read it again:

22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And the Lord's servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

Reflect Together:

What do you think are “youthful passions” (v22)? Have you ever had to flee any?

Paul tells Timothy to correct his opponents with gentleness because that may be the way God grants them repentance. Have you ever seen something like this happen?

WHAT DID GOD SAY TO ME THROUGH HIS WORD?

How are you doing with “youthful passions” today? How about controversies and quarrels? Are you fleeing these things well or not?

Look at the characteristics of the Lord’s servant in verses 24 and 25. Which of these do you do well? Are there any you struggle with?

WHAT DOES GOD WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT?

Is there something the Lord is calling you to say NO to today? Consider with your group what it will take for you to step away from that thing.

Is there a characteristic the Lord is drawing you to grow in? Consider with your group how you can grow in that.
